What is a BIRTH doula?

A birth doula is a non-medically trained emotional and physical support person for you and your partner prenatally, during birth, and postnatally.

How is a doula different from a midwife?

A midwife is a medical professional, responsible for the medical care of Mum and bub. Midwives will focus on the clinical picture and will give medical advice / can perform tests if required. A doula is non medical, focused on providing continuity and personalised care during labour, birth and into the postpartum. A doula will provide emotional and physical support to Mum and her partner and does not perform any medical tests.

When should we get in contact?

Whenever you like! It’s never too early. The earlier we connect, the longer we have to build our trust / friendship. It’s also never too late. If you decide at 36 weeks you would like some extra support, that’s totally fine. We will make quick besties!

do i need a doula?

In short, yes! Studies have shown that continuous support from a Doula can improve outcomes for birth and beyond.

WILL MY PARTNER FEEL LEFT OUT IF WE ENLIST THE SUPPORT OF A DOULA?

Absolutely NOT! I am not there to diminish your partner’s role at all! He/She knows you like no one else does. He/She has the most intimate knowledge of you - your likes, dislikes, what every facial expression means. Your partner is IRREPLACEABLE! I know about birth and how to support you AND your partner!

WHAT AREAS DO YOU SERVICE?

Canberra ACT and Queanbeyan NSW. If you are outside these areas and think you would benefit from some extra birth preparation, check out '‘The Necessary’ package - we can still pack your toolbox with all the tools you will need for labour and birth, and it can all be done virtually!
